On my first deployment responding to a disaster, I realized quickly that I couldn’t rebuild houses, but I could give something real — a way to cope, to express, to breathe. Art saved me more than once, and I know what a simple set of markers or some blank paper can do for a kid with a storm inside them. So I created a kit full of supplies. markers, crayons, sketch paper — tools that can spark imagination, calm chaos, and remind a child that their voice still matters. Each Bennett Box is thoughtfully packed by volunteers with creative essentials designed to bring comfort, joy, and a sense of normalcy to children affected by natural disasters. Inside every box, kids will find a set of vibrant markers, crayons, a pencil and sharpener, a paint set with a small canvas for free expression, fun stickers, a mini coloring book, and a glue stick with child-safe scissors, as well as a rocket-shaped flashlight.
These simple but meaningful tools provide a creative escape, spark imagination, and help children process their emotions through art—reminding them that even in the toughest moments, hope and creativity can shine bright.
