Cares for Pets was specifically created to support those who love, take-in and care for animals following a disaster. In addition to bilk pet food distributed by our DIsaster Task Force to animal rescue organizations, county animal agencies and no-kill shelters, the Cares for Pets program provides pet owners individual kits - Scotty Packs for dogs and Trixie Packs for cats. Each Pack contains the essential items necessary to cares for their beloved pet. When available, a 5 pound bag of pet food is also given along with each Pack.
On Deployment 3 to eastern Kentucky, following historic and deadly flooding, the Disaster Task Force came across 2 dogs that were clearly traumatized by the natural disaster, and malnourished. It was at that moment that the Disaster Task Force on the ground in Kentucky and the Deployment Operations Center volunteer staff decided we had to do something to help pets impacted by natural disasters.
